Project Manager, Design Group  

Smith Engineering is seeking a Project Manager to join our Design Group. This individual will be a key liaison between our customers and our top-tier design team, managing projects from inception to completion. Leveraging our best-in-class Design team, you will enable our specialization strategy and remove growth bottlenecks, enabling 2x revenue in the Design group.

Your Role

Reporting to the VP of Design, in this part-time role you will oversee the entire project lifecycle, ensuring seamless communication and successful outcomes. You will not be responsible for the technical design itself but will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, communicating their needs to our technical team and ensuring project goals are met. You must be a skilled communicator with a low ego, as you will be working with a highly specialized and talented design team.

Responsibilities

  • Client Management: Serve as the main point of contact for clients, attending meetings and addressing their questions and concerns.

  • Project Leadership: Manage projects from beginning to end, ensuring they are delivered on time and within scope.

  • Communication: Act as a liaison between the client and the internal design team, effectively communicating project needs and updates.

  • Construction Administration (CA): Handle administrative services, including bidding projects, leveling bids, and reviewing product submittals (e.g., faucets, toilets) to ensure they match the design specifications. This includes managing the time-consuming process of submittal reviews to allow the design team to focus on production.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the design team, leveraging their expertise to provide the best possible solutions to clients.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in the Energy Engineering industry.

  • Experience as an accomplished Mechanical Engineering Project Manager, with some background in design engineering.

  • Knowledge of the energy engineering industry and an understanding of the challenges associated with engineering, particularly the "bad habits" prevalent in the industry.

  • Extensive experience with Construction Administration (CA).

  • Strong communication skills with a low ego, humility and the ability to work collaboratively with a highly skilled design team.
