Mechanical Engineer

Smith Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work at our customer sites in the New York Metro area and in our Manhattan office. This role reports to Smith Engineering’s Design Group Manager, and is responsible for the following:  

This role reports to Smith Engineering’s Design Group Manager, and is responsible for the following: 

  • Evaluation, analysis, inspection, field testing, troubleshooting, and design of engineered systems for central energy plants

  • Able to navigate a mechanical room and perform field surveys of piping system

  • Prepare drawing sets that follow Smith Engineering standards

  • Manage priorities of various simultaneous projects

  • Review and check all assigned engineering design deliverables

  • Provide project status updates

  • Assisting in construction administration and project management

  • Communicate effectively with customers

  • Collaborate with Smith Engineering internal teams, including energy engineering, building controls, automation, and principal engineers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline or closely related discipline

  • Minimum of 4-7 years of experience working with HVAC projects including central utility plants

  • Experience with AutoCAD, 3D modeling software preferred

  • Working knowledge of DOB now and NYC Department of Buildings processes and requirements

  • Experience assisting construction administration and project management

  • Basic Engineering calculations

  • Demonstrate experienced troubleshooting and problem solving-skills

  • Technical expertise in basic building systems knowledge

Pay

  • $90,000–120,000 annual salary
